Our beef industry is on the way out. Imported beef from America will cost half the price of Australian beef and in spite of the possibility of mad cow disease Australians will buy the beef when imports start in two weeks time.
The new food bowl of Australia to replace the Murray Darling basin is another non goer. The Greens have vetoed the building of dams in the Northern Territory needed if we are to site it there and Tasmania’s hopes are not supported by the Labor Government. So why is that? The answer is in The Australian,12.2.10,p.7.
“China”is to be the new food bowl of Australia;test shipments of garlic, asparagus, onions, peas, capsicum, tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, broccoli and cabbage have increased from 17 million dollars to 48.8 million dollars.
For the second half of last year Australia imported fruit and vegetables worth 826 million dollars and exported 749 million dollars worth.
New Zealand is Australia’s top supplier of fruit and vegetables but China is cheaper.
The Greens will be pleased and so will Australians. The supermarkets will make more money and we will all get cheaper food. Only the unionists and farmers who lose their jobs will be upset and of course anybody who gets mad cow disease.
