Australia’s attempt to control Fiji through three white Australian’s lawyers appointed judges on Fiji’s Court of Appeal, have come unstuck.
The three judges,Mr. Ian Lloyd,Mr. Randall Powell,SC. and Mr. Francis Douglas,Q.C.,ruled last Thursday that military leader Frank Bainimarama’s seizure of power in 2006 coup was illegal. President Josefa Iloilo sacked Fiji’s three-judge Court of Appeal and abolished the constitution in reply.
About six expatriate Australians are part of Fiji’s judiciary including Chief Justice Gates who had told Australian expatriate judge Tom Hickie that the best course of action would be to turn up for court on Tuesday.
Two of the sacked Appeal Court judges, now safely back in Australia, warned that any expatriate judges who accept job offers from the President,Joseph Oloilo, could be seen as treasonous. (The Australian,13.4.09,p. 1-2.)
Mr. Downer’s article in the Advertiser,13.4.09.,is very informative. Mahendra Chaudhry,an Indian and leader of the Fiji Labour Party, was elected Prime Minister in 1999. He was pro-Indian and was overthrown by indigenous Fijians. In the 2001 elections he lost to the indigenous Fijian party. In 2006 Chaudhry supported another coup led by Bainimarama in the hope that the Indians would take over Fiji again.
There is no doubt that Howard’s governments support for rule of Fiji by white lawyers. Fiji is a sovereign nation it’s indigenous Fijians are fighting against an Indian take over. In my view white Australian lawyers are attempting to subvert the rule of a sovereign indigenous people and that is a capital offence.
A comment in Downer’s article shows Australia’s attitude he says,“we just might be able to design a stable South Pacific and contribute to the spread of democracy and prosperity in South East Asia –if we are smart”.
Downer makes me afraid that under the guise of Globalism, democracy and open borders,Australia will become part of China or the Middle East.
