Unley;a city now devoid of light industry,

This is Puffin.

I lived in Unley,South Australia for twenty years and during this period I saw Unley go from a city with Light Industry and many small family businesses to a city devoid of character that the mix of people and industry used to give it.

I went back to Unley today after a break of nineteen years and I saw that Rossiters,a shoe making business, had gone. This to me showed just how low Unley has gone since I left the area. A few small businesses but most of the stock on sale was made overseas. Target is now there as well as Coles and Woolworths but these organizations could not care less about the locals and I suppose the locals may feel the same about them.

What a shame a city now mostly with nouveau riche residents devoid of industry at a time of a recession or should we call it a depression. Will these residents be able to live there when they are made redundant or sacked when their bosses can no longer keep their non industrial business in the black. I don’t think so they may even wish for a factory job to pay the mortgage, sorry the non-elite will want those jobs. I doubt that any industry would want to go back to places like Unley, the people aren’t good enough. Back to front snobbery.

Good on ‘em.

Bye Unley.
