Flagellation

If you feel bad about the poverty of the third world go and live there. Do not expect us to destroy our standard of living because you feel bad about our lifestyle.

David Burchell,The Australian 24/11/08 p. 8 is correct when he says “everyone had an interest in the credit fuelled madness that reshaped the world’s economy”. He should have added that without the inventive energy of western man the world would still be in the dark ages and its populations culled by plague and famine.

The greatest and most powerful empire the world has seen could only be destroyed by itself. Taxation and civil war destroyed Rome, with us it was constant warfare and as the great German poet Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe said “The poets of the East are greater than those of the West. The one thing we leave them behind is in the detestation of our own kind”. As David Burchell says,Goethe anticipated two long centuries of Western self doubt, self mistrust and even self disgust. Everything the third world has they inherited from us. The only satisfaction I have is that the stupid elite will suffer with us as their fortunes turn to waste paper.
