Industrious and extremely patriotic,we have given them a taste of the good life and their rulers must now give them the sweet life to all their teeming millions or go under.
China has most of the requirements of a predatory power in a global world. A very large population,one of the largest industrial bases in the world,a big arms industry,a patriotic population and a large middle class.
An article by General Michael V. Hayden,Director of the Central Intelligence Agency,(The Advertiser Review,19.7.08.p.3) titled ‘The Shift in World Power’,gives America’s view of the rise of China. According to the General,“China aspires to and will likely achieve great power status during this century. China is a competitior,but not an inevitable enemy of the U.S.”
Later he writes that attention will shift from European threats to “Global threats that sffect us all”. China?
Where does Australia stand in all this? The article says that China needs among things,resources and Australia is resources and for that China needs to own these resources.
