Anger as jobs go offshore,

Errors of a class warrior.

It is not just the low paid.

Democratic governments and the Unions no longer have control of the labour market. Julia Gillard, lord of all she surveys, still believes in class warfare. According to Christopher Pearson in his article,“Errors of a class warrior”,she still believes that education shoud be used in social engineering, she says “equity is a moral issue in our country. A nation that thinks of itself as esssentially egalitarian can’t sit by idly while those from disadvantaged backgrounds are denied the life opportunities that come from higher education.”She’s also conflating equality of opportunity and equality of outcomes and makes two heroic assumptions. The first is that the ability to benefit from higher education is evenly distributed across every decile of income. The second is that there is a limited correlation between high socio economic status and academic ability. Anyone who has attended a real school know that not all the students are gifted academically nor in fact inclined in that direction. Gillard would seem to think that the school system should drive all students to undertake a university education. If that is her attitude our school system will not improve and our university degrees will lose their value.

Universities are intrinsically elite institutions and already they,in the pursuit of money, are allowing overseas students who can barely speak English to graduate.

The quality of their degree, which is now evaluated internationally,is critical for an able student. It is not only the unskilled who are losing their jobs to migrants,“Anger as jobs go offshore”. Fisher and Paykel are moving their Australian plant to Thailand, and in England a very well known U.K. company is making its technical staff redundant en masse and replacing them with Indian graduates!

The Indians are intelligent, well educated and hard working so they do a good job. They are still foreign domiciled Indian citizens and avoid U.K. tax and national insurance. They can even get VAT back on leaving the U.K. The company is laughing because they can give the Indians the same disposable income as the U.K. staff while paying them half the salary. The company does not need to pay 10% national insurance contribution,Or paid leave,Or maternity leave,Or paid sick leave,Or pension contributions,Or lawyers to go to industrial tribunals,Or redundancy payments when projects get cancelled.

The Labour government makes British workers at all levels unemployable and while globalisation is the policy the standard of living of British workers must fall.
