How can you have a democracy when the voting public is only allowed to vote on issues not considered important by the ruling class?
Modern instances of this selective approach are;the Lima agreement, the transfer of European intellectual property (Industrial secrets) to the Third World free of charge;Globalisation, the unrestricted movement of labour and capital about the Globe and the attempt to make the UN and EU World governments.
We are now ruled by an oligarchy of inner city elites comprised of Lawyers, the medical profession, the NGO’s of the human rights industry, academics, the business sector and leaders of the Union movement.
The aims of this group are diverse but the most influential are the Neo-liberals,followers of Friedrich von Hayek,Reagan and Thatcher were two of his supporters together with Clinton,Blair and Brown.
Neo-liberalism claims that we are best served by maximum market freedom and minimum intervention by the state. Hayek’s book ‘The Road to Serfdom’propounds his philosophy but an article in (The Guardian Weekly 31.08.07) points where his ideas actually takes us.
Only the ultra-rich have the power to move industries world wide and dominate world markets in a way that causes a massive shift in wealth not just to the top 1% but to the 0.1% (The Guardian Weekly).
Hayek says in his book that his way would stop you being a slave of the state but international business interests have stripped Western Nations of their industries and the technology that made them rich and powerful.
The people who’s ideas created the wealth are now stripped of it and world domination has been given on a plate to China.
Not all the oligarchs are super rich but the lawyers do all right.
In London the law firm Clifford and Chance has a yearly revenue of A$2901.5 million profit A$909.8 million and profit per partner of A$2.466million.
Another firm Linklaters had revenue of A$2719.2 million profit A$119 million and profit per partner of A$2.8 million.
These firms were the top two performers in London and the top ten law firms in the city employ 46,000 lawyers and newly qualified lawyers start at A$246,000.
Money is not the only incentive, power is heady stuff and ruling the world one way or another is what drives the rest of the oligarchs.
In Australia the Labor and Liberal parties are no more than fronts for the city elites. In the case of Labor the Union movement is kept satisfied with some preferential treatment.
The Liberal party has its own favourites but in the end all the parties bow to the pressures of the major international companies which are supported by America and the EU and we are stripped of our wealth.
