British property developer leads the way to the future. A property developer from Nottingham,England has bought 35 thousands acres of arable land in Russia- about 55 square miles- in what is thought to be the first deal of its kind. Robert Monk has been given permission for his Russian subsidary company to acquire the freehold at about 100 dollars an acre.
He wants to expand the farm up to 100,000 acres in one of the few places in the world where there are vast areas of land up for sale. He expects to obtain a yield of around 80,000 thousand tons of wheat, malting barley, sugar beet and potatoes from about 20,000 acres so far cultivated.
This would seem to be a better bet than farming drought stricken Australia where governments can’t even decide how to use the Murray water.
