For many years Britain’s New Labour government gave sanctuary to large numbers of foreign born terrorists and revolutionaries in the name of free speech and human rights.
Many of these people were not extradited even if the charge was Terrorism or Murder, much to the anger of many countries who resented the inference that their justice systems would not give those charged a fair trial or the punishment was too draconian.
Now the boot is on the other foot. Russia has refused to extradite Andrei Lugovoy to England for the murder of Aleander Litvinenko and England is upset. Russia obviously believes that Lugovoy will not receive a fair trial after the World Court in the Hague, which is supported by England, spent many years trying Slobodan Milosovich before finding him not guilty, when he was dead, for lack of evidence.
