The Australian Literary Review (4.10.2006,p.3) raises the topic of the Australian intellectual.
Richard Nile (First cohort for thought)”canvassed the views of 200 scholars who were asked to list 10 important and influential thinkers”. No danger of unbiased assessment here.
The final list comprised some 300 names “covering a broad range of academics, community leaders, journalist, jurists and scientists.”
As usual the scientists were not considered academics. Natural scientists and engineers were always considered lesser breeds by the English Aristocracy who were the main body of students in the past, reading the classics or religion.
Times have changed. Mathematics, the language of science,is incomprehensible to most humanities students and Bill Gates proves that an astute scientist makes his own world.
In England,in the past, less talented scholars were directed into (STINKS) science. The services during the war had a word for Arts Graduates,Bull Shit artists,I prefer the modern, crap merchants. After all in the Oxford University Union debates if you glibly talked rubbish you could win the debate.
Now,art critics are the best exponents in this field. It takes a first class creative speaker to describe a pile of shit as an important work of art that makes significant comment on the aspirations of the intellectually challenged lower classes.
Unfortunately for our intellectual elite the screams of ‘Vote Labor’ that filled the media at the last federal election were ignored by the so called lower classes who felt that Howard was the better option.
I hope that this crew of Neo-Marxists are never allowed effective control of the World through the UN.
